Welcome to the Eton College Chapel Choir 2011 USA tour blog, written by John Gowers, Hugo Popplewell, Richard Gowers and Rubin Patel (and we hope others).
After quite a tedious flight with our friends from British Airways, whose announcements at five minute intervals caused equally frequent outbursts of wrath from Alex Eager, we arrived safely in Boston.
The coach journey to Roxbury Latin School was reasonably short, but long enough to give us a very good night view of the city centre, arousing Quintin Beer's delight as he noticed a well lit up and apparently familiar gun shop. Meanwhile Edward Picton-Turbervill was disgusted at how clean the masonry was on the churches. He was tired. Somebody helpfully told our coach driver that we were a touring football team, which, to aid the driver's credibility Nick Hampson later named "The Cheesecake Factory", as we passed a restaurant with the same name.
The homestay families from Roxbury are very welcoming, and will hopefully remain that way despite our 8:00 meeting at the school tomorrow in time for a sung assembly.
Our efficient system of "numbering off" (each person has been allocated a tour number from 1 to 45 and shouts theirs in quick succession) has been a disaster, with each offending member receiving much-deserved groans.
There will be more of this blather tomorrow.
Richard Gowers
